Reading Takes Center Stage at Union Ridge School

Students kick-off the year by making independent reading selections.   At Union Ridge, we strive to teach innovative reading programs designed to develop student’s reading fluency and comprehension.  Our goal is to develop in each child the confidence, enthusiasm, and skill required to be a successful young reader.   This year we continue to introduce the Rowland Reading “SuperKids” program in the primary grades.   We are part of a national early reading study funded by the Rowland Foundation.  At the middle school level, we are implementing a new “Language!” reading program for reluctant readers.  One of the key elements of any effective reading program is regular independent reading both at school and home.
