Dear Union Ridge Community,

The results for the 2011 ISAT or Illinois State Achievement Test results have arrived. I am very proud of the efforts and scores of our hard working students.  Our 2011 ISAT scores demonstrate overall growth from the 2010 ISAT scores. The students of Union Ridge School continue to display impressive growth in both Reading and Mathematics. Our scores reflect the dedication of our hard working students and the committed Union Ridge staff.

This year, for the first time, we unfortunately did not meet all requirements established under “The No Ch/ild Left Behind Act”. This act, established in 2001, requires that 85% of students tested in 2011 meet and/or exceed state standards in all district subgroups in the areas of Reading and Mathematics on the ISAT. The Illinois District Report Card will be released in October 2011 with more details about Union Ridge’s performance compared to the state average. You will notice that our students performed very well, but one of our student subgroups did not meet the 85% target this year.  Union Ridge School has multiple subgroups that comprise the student population. The subgroups are Limited English Proficiency (LEP), Students with Disabilities, Economically Disadvantaged, and Hispanic.

Union Ridge School has met the established government targets each year until this school year.  We have recognized that our large LEP population excels on the ISAT once they have established a strong foundation in the English language. Our 7th and 8th grade ISAT scores in both Reading and Mathematics demonstrate the quality of education provided by Union Ridge School. Our 7th and 8th grade students have traditionally excelled as a group on standardized testing. It is a testament to the educational progression of a typical student who attends Union Ridge School.

Next year’s target will increase from this year’s 85% to 92.5% of all students, and subgroups of students, must fall within the meet/exceed range in ISAT. By 2014, all students in the United States are expected to meet/exceed standards in ISAT. We understand the responsibility of providing all our students with a demanding curriculum and high standards. I am certain that Union Ridge School will continue the strong commitment to educating each student to his or her full potential and ensure the quality education that has been the expectation for the past 135 years.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions regarding this letter or the 2011 Union Ridge School District Report Card.

Sincerely,

Michael G. Maguire
Principal
